Layout of a Pick Module

Carton flow utilizes inclined shelves equipped with roll track to move cartons by gravity from the restocking aisle to the picking aisle. Since no power is required and picking and restocking can be done much quicker, the ROI on Carton Flow is usually very attractive for distribution operations selling less than full case quantity and manufacturing operations that may be assembling kits for production.

Productivity is greatly enhanced by reducing the walking time of pickers and restocking speed is usually doubled or tripled. Since picking and restocking take place on opposite sides of the rack, neither function interferes with the other. And since gravity flow uses floor space more efficiently, requiring fewer aisles, at least 50% more goods can be stocked in the same amount of floor space than static shelving.
